About Us - What We Do
We speak for those who cannot speak for themselvesSociety for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Sandakan
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Sandakan is a non-profit animal welfare organization registered on 27th July 2012. SPCA Sandakan is the youngest animal welfare organization in Malaysia, initiated by members who have the compassion and love for animals.
Our organization came into being from the many rescues of abused and abandoned pets in Sandakan. Our volunteers have kindly donated their time and energy, money to buy food for the animals, building shelters, fostering and adopting recused animals and veterinary care.
Every year, hundreds of animals have no homes to return to and many are left to die on the streets. SPCA Sandakan needs your help to provide humane care for the abandoned animals, to provide them a home and the love they deserve. In return, animals will return your kindness with unconditional love and dedication.
Persatuan Mencegah Kezaliman Terhadap Haiwan Sandakan, Sabah
We seek to educate the public on the proper care and responsibility of owning a pet, to create an awareness for animal rights. Animals can give so much to their owners and ask for so little in return. If you know of animals being abandoned or abused, we can help. You can help. SPCA Sandakan is ready to take action for the protection of animals.
Our 5 Key Areas Of Work
Among our main areas of focus includes these 5 key areas work:
1. Neutering of pets
Spaying and Neutering of pets is the best way to prevent the over population and its associated problems – it helps prevent animal abandonment and illness animals can be stricken with.
2. Educating the public on responsible pet ownership
Our Education Program aims to create awareness and motivate people to improve animal welfare in their communities. We reach out to ordinary people through out awareness talks and road shows.
3. Rescue and Re-homing
Every year, hundreds of animals, including dogs and cats are abandoned or are kept in terrible conditions and suffer from mal-treatment. Consider adoption of Homeless Animal if you are looking for a pet. Members of the public are encouraged to adopt animals from the SPCA.
4. Inspectorate – Action against reported animal abuse
SPCA Sandakan investigate complaints relating to animal abuse or neglect everyday, and work closely with the relevant authorities . The identities of complainants are kept confidential, to encourage more people to come forward and report such cases.
5. Lobbying of Animal Rights
We continue to lobby DBKK and Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) to standardize and mandate humane animal control: humane catching, housing and euthanasia. We lobby the Government for better legislation and enforcement on the issue of Animal rights.
